DVRs do not use standard file systems like NTFS. They use proprietary systems (WFS, DHFS, etc.) to write video in a continuous and circular stream.
When a video is deleted or the DVR is formatted, Windows will not recognize the drive. Specialized video forensic software is needed to scan the raw disk, identify video headers (H.264, H.265), and reconstruct corrupted video streams.
